Writing Narrative

I am learning to write a narrative story.
I'll know I can do this when my stories have:
- Character - Setting - Introduction - Problem - Climax - Conclusion - Descriptive language such as similes and metaphors - Character speech using speech marks
This is my narrative plan.

This is my narrative it is about a race in space.

I learned that their are charters in a narrative.
Something I found hard was publishing.


In Taiao I have been learning about chickens. I have learned about the parts of a chicken, some facts about chickens, the parts of an egg (which I used to make an omelette), and what a chicken needs to be happy and healthy. Something I learned was knowing what different parts of chicken people eat.


In music with Mr McCullum I have been learning to play the ukulele.
I'll know I've been successful when I hold the ukulele correctly and can strum the cords.
Something I learned was knowing different cords.

Reading Kotuku

I am learning to make connections between the text and my prior knowledge. 
I'll know I can do this when I can share what I already know about a topic prior to reading and make connections throughout the text.
Something I learned was reading books to learn about stuff.

Maths Tapaono

I am learning fractions with different denominators.
I'll know I can do this when I can Explain and show the order of single fractions with different denominators from smallest to largest value.
Something i found hard was using different fractions.

Art Don Binney

I am learning to create art inspired by Don Binney. 
I'll know I can do this when I have created a landscape with a foreground, middle, and background.
My bird and my background are coloured using pastels and natural colours.
Next time i want to cut my bird properly.  

Writing Report

i am learning to write an information report.

I'll know I can do this when I can plan and write an information reports with a title, topic sentence, and a group of facts about a subject.

Something I learned was that information reports have more than two sentences. 

Leaner Qulities

i am learning how to empathise.
I'll know I can do this when I can identify a variety of ways I can show empathy to others.
A way I can empathise is by help my friends.

Creative Writing - Scripts

We are learning to write scripts to create a play.

We know we are successful if our script has:
- multiple characters
- a setting
- character speech
- stage direction (in a different colour to the speech)

Once we have written our scripts we are creating the plays using Puppet Pals.

My play is called "Monster Rumpus"

Peace Week 2017

I have been learning about Peace Week.
Peace Week is an annual tradition organised by The Peace Foundation every year. You can learn more about The Peace Foundation by following this LINK.

As a way to learn about Peace Week I did three different Peace Week activities.

With Miss Brennan we created a poster to help promote peace and Peace Week.
With Mrs Baker we made hand print doves and wrote messages of peace on them.
With Mr Horn we looked at the symbols of peace such as the dove and created origami doves.

My learning goal this term is recognise and use new vocabulary.
I can do this by turning words into sentences.
This is a photo to show my learning.

Procedural Writing

WALHT write a procedure.
Something I would like to do better is using adverbs to show how.
Something I learned about writing a procedure is using adverbs is important.
Here is my writing.


Jelly Pops
How to make tasty jelly pops.

What do you need?
  • Jelly crystals.
  • Party cups.
  • Boiling water(1 cup). WARNING ask a adult for help.
  • Cold water(1/2)cup).
  • Fruit sticks.
  • Whisk.
  • Jug/bowl


1. Prepare party cups on a flat table.
2.Carefully Pour boiling water into a jug/bowl.

3.Pour the jelly crystals into the meshing jug.

4. Slowly dissolve the jelly crystals with the whisk.

5.Safely  pour the cold water into the meshing jug.

6.Leave the jug on a bench  for 15 minutes.

7. Slowly pour the jelly into the  party cups.

8.Take a fruit stick and put it into a party cup.

9.Put the party cups in the fridge to set.

Something I learned was using a key to explain a pictograph.

My next step is using different categories.



We are learning how to do the hip hop and salsa.
My favourite  part was the part when we stuck our arms out and crossed our arms.
The hardest part was when Te Paea turned around and me holding on to her finger.


WALT:  Add a twist to our writing
Here is my poem.

I didn't pour gravy on the baby.
I didn't stick my toes up his nose.
I didn't put beer in his ears.
But I did go crazy on my tablet.

I didn't eat worm stew.
I didn't eat slugs in a mug.
I didn't eat snails on toast.
But I did eat noodles.

I didn't see ghost bears.
I didn' tsee zombie dogs.
I didn't see evil cats.
But I did see my auntie.

Next time I would like to make longer sentences.

Taiao Programme

I have been leaning to be safe around the kitchen.
We made apple crumble.
I learned to be safe with graters.
A question I have is why does the crumble have so much ginger?

I am learning to add a photo from my Google Drive.

Little River Trip

The Year 4 students went to Cheskin Orchard and Chook Manor to learn about fruit and chickens.

I learned that peaches have a furry coat.

I liked Chook Manor because of the chickens.

A question I have is why do chickens lay different eggs?
